Lumière on Rails: Modern Europe 2025

Event Overview

It all begins with an idea. It is where European brushstrokes meet Eastern aesthetics. Lumière on Rails: Modern Europe 2025 is an invitation to meet Asian audiences and collectors for young artists. MoNA has always devoted its efforts to promoting art among the young generation. Untraditional without limits and boundaries, MoNA will showcase European art along with Chinese royal furniture. MoNA believes art is a result of clashing ideas and a mixture of creativity.

While European art is often available in large metropolises in China, it remains distant and often unknown in the rest. MoNA aims to bridge that gap. Situated on Mount Ji-Gong, which welcomes more than 1 million visitors annually, MoNA hopes to bring the energy of European art to more eyes. This makes MoNA one of the few museums in central China that welcomes European artworks.

In addition, Lumière on Rails: Modern Europe 2025 will be the very first exhibition that entirely features European artworks in MoNA, marking it historic. Selected artworks will travel through the rails to Xinyang, China. All works featured in this year’s exhibition will be permanently recorded into the history of MoNA, which started 30 years ago.

If you are an artist who hopes to showcase your work to a larger group of audience, we sincerely invite you to apply! Your art will travel to the far East to the new eyes!

Why You Should Join Us

A combination of art exhibition and fair

  1. MoNA exists to create something untraditional. Working with us, you will receive a chance to not only display your art work to an international audience, but also establish new collaborations with potential buyers who truly resonate with your artistic vision.

  2. Every submitted work matters - whether large or small. Therefore, you, as an artist, will have a significant say in determining the price of your work. MoNA hopes to work alongside you!

  3. To eliminate difficulties in exhibiting in China, MoNA will cover all transportation costs of your work. This means you just need to drop off your work at the designated location, complete a few paperworks, and let us handle the rest!

  4. Because MoNA is a museum at the national level, we charge only a 20% service fee on the final sale price of your work. If your works do not sell, don’t worry! We’ll return them right back to you as they were with no additional costs.

  5. Each selected artist will have the chance to display a personal introduction and your picture to the audience. This artist introduction page will be framed into the wall right next to your work! MoNA hopes to recognise you and your work!

Who We Are Looking For

A true love for art and something beautiful

  1. If you are a current student who has original creations…

  2. If you are a recent graduate who is hoping to sell your first work…

  3. If you are a young artist who wants to expand your influence globally…

  4. If you are an accomplished artist who hopes to set foot in mainland China…

We sincerely invite you to apply and submit your works!

What Kind of Artworks We Are Looking For

Modern and traditional styles are all welcomed

  1. All styles are welcomed, but originality is the key. MoNA will only consider works entirely your own. Your work can be inspired by other arts, but MoNA cannot accept any works that are direct replicas of others’ work. We hope to see your unique way of expressing thoughts and how you view the world!

  2. While MoNA values all artworks, we will prioritise those that are easy-to-transport. This means that if your work is done on fragile materials such as glass, you will have to submit something else to be considered. MoNA will do the best to ensure safe travel, but nothing is a guarantee. The last thing we want to see is your work damaged on the trip.

  3. We understand that your works might come with beautiful frames, but unfortunately we will have to remove all external frames for transportation. Don’t worry! We will re-frame your paintings once they arrive to ensure the best display experience at no additional costs. Please only submit works with removable frames.

  4. While modern art can be created on a variety of materials, due to international law and import regulations, we cannot consider works done on prohibited materials such as ivory, animal skin, precious redwood, etc. If your work is painted on a normal canvas, don’t worry about this!

If all these sound exciting and you hope to partake in this international journey, click below to start your application! We will get back to you soon!
