It begun with an idea.
The Museum of Nature and Art at Ji-Gong mountain was founded in 1990s. Originally known as the National Museum of Nature, MoNA went through a transformative journey through the past 30 years. Ji-Gong mountain an AAAAA national park located in Xinyang, China. Home to over 2200 of species of plants and animals, Ji-Gong mountain’s history dates back to over 4600 years ago to emperor Yan and Huang. During Tang and Song dynasty, emperor Taizong and Hongwu emperor both visited Ji-Gong mountain. In 1902 when railroads were built to Xinyang, Ji-Gong mountain also welcomed its new era. From 1898 to 1936, missionaries from more than 23 countries visited Ji-Gong mountain and established churches and residential houses. These architectures dicpicts various styles from French, Danish, Portuguese to American, Thai, and Phillippine. In year 1935 alone, more than 2000 individuals from 23 countries resided on Ji-Gong mountain.
Situated on Baoxiao peak, MoNA was originally created to record and showcase the variety of nature on the mountain. In 2020, the National Museum of Nature officially adopted its new name - the Museum of Nature and Art, to incorporate humanities in the midst of nature.
As MoNA enters into a new phase, we hope to see younger generations are equipped with the ability to discover beauty wherever they go. Here at MoNA, we hope to create an epitome of nature and art, sources of inspiration to create something beautiful.
